Inster: Hyundai’s Casper goes electric

Published: 11 June 2024

► Inster will be based on the Casper platform
► A range of 355km (221 miles)
► Full reveal later this month

Hyundai is filling out the bottom end of its electric line-up with this: a new A-segment EV called the Inster. There are no real pictures to go on just yet; Hyundai has just released a name and these shadowy teasers, but we do know it’ll be based on the petrol-powered, Korea-only Casper. And that Hyundai is targeting a maximum range of 355km or 221 miles.

Wait, what it’s called?

Hyundai is calling its new A-segment EV the Inster, which isn’t sure for Instagram, but is instead a mish-mash of the words ‘intimate’ and ‘innovative.’ It seems the suits in HQ knew the Casper name would go down well but chose a slightly more embarrassing moniker to replace it.

What’s underneath?

Even from these pictures, it’s clear the Inster will be an electric version of the Casper, introduced back in 2021. Take a close look at that light signature, and it’s also possible to make out Hyundai’s customary pixel graphics: this may not be an Ioniq, but it’ll carry the signature look of Hyundai EVs.

What else do we know?

Hyundai will reveal the entire car at the Busan International Mobility Show later this month, but before that, our spy photographers snapped it while out cold-weather testing. Interestingly, our spy pictures correlate with these new official teasers from Hyundai.
